Credit Secrets Book Review

Hey there, I’m Jenna Lofton, and I’m glad you found your way to my Credit Secrets book review. If you’re dealing with bad credit or just want to push your score higher, you’re in the right spot. Today I’m digging into the credit repair book that’s been all over Facebook and YouTube ads for the last couple of years, Credit Secrets by Scott and Allison Hilton.

I bought my own copy, went through the whole system, and I’m going to tell you exactly what’s in it, what actually worked when I applied similar techniques to my own credit years ago, and where I think the marketing oversells things a little.

Short version: Credit Secrets is a legitimate, well-organized credit repair guide with real letter templates you can actually use. I used similar dispute strategies myself years ago and took my own score from 550 to over 800.

The book won’t magically erase accurate negative history, and results depend entirely on whether you actually send the letters. But for the price of a tank of gas, it’s a genuinely useful starting point if you’re willing to do the work.

Who Are Scott and Allison Hilton?

Scott & Allison Hilton, Credit Secrets Book Founders

Before we get into the book, it helps to know who wrote it. Scott and Allison Hilton are a Las Vegas couple who dealt with genuinely bad credit themselves before turning what they learned into a business helping other people fix theirs.

That “we’ve actually been there” angle is pretty common in this space, plenty of credit repair authors lean on it, so I don’t take it at face value just because it’s a good story. What matters more to me is whether the actual content holds up, which is what the rest of this review is about.

What Is Credit Secrets, Exactly?

I got it, so I can show you!

Credit Secrets Book

At its core, Credit Secrets is a step-by-step guide to disputing negative items on your credit report and understanding how the credit bureaus actually operate. It breaks credit repair down into plain language instead of legal jargon, and it comes with letter templates you fill in and mail out.

The core book covers:

  • How to pull and read your actual credit reports and scores
  • Strategies for disputing inaccurate or outdated items
  • Legal angles for tackling tougher issues like collections and judgments
  • Ready-to-use letter templates for a long list of specific situations

My Own Credit Story (Yes, This Is My Actual Score)

My Fico Score

I was in a rough spot with credit about 13 years ago. I was trying to buy a car, and my score was sitting around 550, which meant nobody wanted to give me a decent rate.

Three different lenders at the dealership quoted me somewhere between 8% and 15% on a $7,000 2007 Honda Civic. On a car that cheap, that’s an ugly amount of interest for basically nothing.

This was before Credit Secrets existed, so I had to piece things together on my own, reading whatever credit repair books I could find and even paying an accountant for a couple of one-on-one sessions to understand what I was actually looking at on my reports.

Using dispute strategies very similar to what’s in this book, I got my score from 550 to 710 in a couple of months. That’s a genuinely fast jump, and it wasn’t magic, it was just methodically disputing everything that was inaccurate or outdated and following up in writing.

These days my score sits around 824, and it’s been above 800 for more than six years now. That first jump from disputing errors is what got the ball rolling, everything after that was just normal responsible credit use over time.

The practical payoff was real too. Once my score climbed, I refinanced into a much better rate, and a few months later I leased a BMW 3 Series at 1.9% for less per month than that old Civic had cost me. I named that car Breezy Bella, and yes, I’ve since traded her in for a newer model, but she got me through some good years.

Was It Actually Easy?

Honestly, once I understood the process, yes. Nothing about credit disputes is complicated once you know what to write and where to send it, the hard part is just doing it consistently and not giving up after the first rejection letter, because you will get rejection letters.

Reading through Credit Secrets now, the process it walks you through is basically the same thing I figured out the hard way over months of trial and error, except it’s laid out for you upfront instead of scattered across a dozen different sources. That alone would have saved me a lot of time back then.

The short version of how this works: you dispute items in writing, the bureau has a limited window to verify them, and if they can’t verify it in time, it has to come off. Credit Secrets teaches that process plus a handful of more specific tactics for tougher situations like judgments and old collections.

The Credit Secrets Members Area

Credit Secrets Members Area

Beyond the book itself, there’s a members area organized into four phases. Here’s what’s actually in each one.

Phase 1: Fast Track

This is the onboarding phase, pulling your current reports and scores, getting into the private Smart Money Club community, and a jumpstart training built around one specific dispute letter that’s supposed to move scores 30 to 70 points on its own.

Phase 2: Improve Your Scores

This is the meat of it, the full digital version of the book, a walkthrough training that expands on it, and access to a piece of software called the Automator that helps organize and speed up the dispute process instead of tracking everything manually in a spreadsheet.

Phase 3: Build Your Wealth

This phase moves past repair into building credit forward, a credit-building training, a business credit program aimed at securing funding, and some resources on generating extra income from home.

Phase 4: The Next Level

The last phase gets more specific, guidance on buying a home or a car with less-than-perfect credit, plus an audiobook version if you’d rather listen than read.

The Automator Tool Is the Standout Extra

Manually tracking which letter went to which bureau, on what date, and what the response deadline is gets old fast when you’re disputing multiple items. The Automator software handles that bookkeeping for you, which is the kind of unglamorous thing that actually makes people follow through instead of quitting halfway.

Inside the Book: Chapter by Chapter

Credit Secrets Book

Chapter 1: Getting Started

Covers how to pull and read your credit reports, the basics of FICO scoring, and how each bureau operates. Includes three inquiry removal letter templates you can copy, fill in, and mail immediately.

Chapter 2: Removing Negative Items

This is the chapter with the most letter templates, late payments, collections, charge-offs, bankruptcies, foreclosures, all covered with fill-in-the-blank formats.

Chapter 3: Advanced Tactics

Covers public records disputes, filing complaints, and a specific legal method for tackling liens, judgments, and bankruptcies that’s more aggressive than the basic dispute letters.

Chapter 4: Legal Approaches

Not something most people will need, but this covers when and how to file a small claims suit against a creditor or bureau that’s violating your rights. Most readers will skip this chapter entirely, which is fine.

Chapter 5: ChexSystems Removals

Exactly what it sounds like, dealing with ChexSystems flags that can keep you from opening a bank account.

Chapter 6: Student Loans, Repossessions, and Medical Bills

Covers strategies specific to student loans, repossessions, and using HIPAA-related tactics to dispute medical collections, which work differently than other debt types.

Chapter 7: Advanced Techniques

This one gets into faster credit-building tactics, including authorized user tradelines. The idea is simple: if someone with a long, clean credit history adds you as an authorized user on their account, that account’s history can show up on your report too. It’s a real strategy people use, though it’s worth understanding the risks before you try it with someone you don’t fully trust financially.

Chapter 8: Frequently Asked Questions

A genuinely useful catch-all covering the questions that come up most, from basic report-reading to handling collections and judgments.

Chapter 9: Statute of Limitations Chart

A state-by-state chart showing how long a creditor legally has to sue you over unpaid debt. Once that window closes, they can’t sue you over it anymore, so knowing your state’s timeline matters if an old debt collector comes calling.

The “11 Words” People Keep Mentioning

You may have heard people mention the “Credit Secrets 11 words.” It’s a specific phrase used in one of the dispute letters, and I’m not going to spell it out here since it’s part of the paid content, but I’ll say this: it’s one tool in a bigger toolbox, not a magic spell. Anyone telling you eleven words alone will fix years of credit damage is oversimplifying it.

How Fast Can You Expect Results?

Some disputes resolve in as little as a week. Tougher items, judgments, older collections, can take anywhere from 30 to 90 days depending on how responsive the bureau and creditor are. In my own experience, the biggest jumps came within the first month or two, once several disputed items dropped off around the same time.

I’ll be straightforward here: I can’t verify specific published statistics about average user results, since I don’t have access to Credit Secrets’ internal user data. What I can tell you is what happened when I used similar dispute strategies myself, and that a 550 to 710 jump in a couple of months lines up with what disputing several inaccurate items at once can realistically do.

What Sets It Apart

A few things make this stand out from other credit repair guides I’ve looked at over the years:

  • The authors have actually been through it. That doesn’t guarantee quality, but combined with the depth of the content, it reads like it comes from real experience rather than a ghostwriter who’s never disputed anything.
  • The templates are genuinely ready to use. You’re not starting from a blank page, you’re filling in blanks.
  • It covers more ground than just disputes. Business credit, ChexSystems, medical bill removal, that’s a wider net than most books in this space bother casting.

A Few Honest Caveats

Credit Secrets can’t remove accurate, verifiable negative information just because you dispute it. If you genuinely missed payments and the creditor can prove it, disputing won’t make that disappear, and any book that implies otherwise is being dishonest with you. What this book actually teaches is how to challenge errors, outdated items, and things creditors can’t properly verify, which is legal and effective, but it’s not the same as erasing real history.

Results also depend entirely on you actually sending the letters and following up. The book and the Automator tool can only do so much if it sits unused on your hard drive.

The Facebook Group

Credit Secrets Facebook Group

Buyers also get access to a private Facebook group with close to 29,000 members. It’s a mix of people sharing wins, asking questions when they get a confusing bureau response, and occasionally venting about a stubborn collector. Community support isn’t going to fix your credit by itself, but having a place to ask “is this response normal?” is genuinely useful when you’re in the middle of the process.

Pricing and the Refund Policy

Credit Secrets is priced well under what most credit repair services charge, and it comes with a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. If you don’t see improvement after actually using the techniques, you can request a refund.

✅

90-Day Satisfaction Guarantee

If you don’t see improvement within 90 days of actually applying the techniques, you can request a refund. Given how cheap the book is compared to a credit repair service, the downside here is genuinely small.

Credit Secrets vs. Hiring a Credit Repair Company

Professional credit repair companies typically charge somewhere between $50 and $150 a month, sometimes for months at a time, to do essentially the same dispute-letter process this book teaches you to do yourself. If you’re comfortable doing a bit of paperwork and follow-up, the DIY route is dramatically cheaper for the same underlying strategy.

Where a paid service might make sense instead is if your situation is genuinely complicated, multiple accounts in dispute, active litigation, that kind of thing, or if you simply know you won’t follow through on your own. There’s no shame in that, some people just do better paying someone else to handle the follow-up.

My Final Take

I went into Credit Secrets already knowing the underlying process, since I’d figured out something similar the hard way over a decade ago. Reading it now, it’s a genuinely solid, well-organized version of what I wish I’d had back then instead of piecing it together from scattered sources and a couple of expensive accountant sessions.

The letter templates alone are worth the price if you’d otherwise be starting from scratch. The members area adds real value on top, particularly the Automator tool for staying organized. Just go in with realistic expectations: it teaches you how to dispute errors and outdated items effectively, it doesn’t erase accurate negative history, and none of it works unless you actually do the mailing.

Bottom line: A legitimate, well-organized credit repair guide with real, usable letter templates and a genuinely helpful members area. I used similar strategies myself to go from 550 to over 800, and the process this book teaches is close to what actually worked for me. It won’t erase real negative history, and it only works if you follow through, but for the price, it’s a solid starting point.
